"A visionary is a dreamer who takes action"

Note: Meetings have been moved to the third Tuesday of the month, effective June 2010.

About “IPEV”

The "Internet Professionals / Experts / Visionaries" group is based in Toronto and meets on the third Tuesday of the month for the purpose of having an open discussion on Internet related trends, topics, and developments. To avoid long weekends, if the meeting would be immediately after a holiday Monday, we shift it to the following week.

Our meetings are small, informal and held in the evening over dinner and beverages at a local pub. The best meetings seem to have no more than eight attendees, but we rarely hit that number.

Every once in a while there's a topic or theme to the discussion. Most of the time the topic gets pushed to the side by current events. Yet somehow the discussion always comes back to touch on how changes in communications are shaping those events. Although the core discussion tends to be about technology, the real subject is how technology is effecting social change.

Membership in the group is free and open to anyone with something to say and who is willing to make a positive contribution. The name of the group is intended to reflect the people we hope to attract:

  • Professionals who are actively and directly involved with Internet related work.
  • Experts: people with specific Internet expertise, for example academics and legal experts dealing with Internet related issues.
  • Visionaries: People who think about what the Internet means in a larger sociological, political, or technological context. Aside from a capability for creative thought, there are no specific qualifications for "visionary"; it's intended to be broad in scope.
